The rentSTRONG workshop has been designed to provide practical education to help potential renters acquire and keep affordable, healthy housing. rentSTRONG offers guidance for individuals who may encounter difficulty obtaining rental housing due to a lack of experience, or poor rental and credit history. The workshop covers tenants’ legal rights and emphasizes skills that my help avoid legal confrontations. It stresses tenants’ responsibilities and the advantages to be gained from landlord/tenant relationships that are mutually beneficial, rather than confrontational.

The workshop is taught by certified home ownership educators and other professionals from the community who provide presentations on a range of tenant topics including:

  • Budgeting for your household
  • Understanding and evaluating your credit and how to use credit wisely
  • Completing a Rental Application
  • Searching for Housing
  • Understanding Rental Agreements
  • Choosing Rental Insurance
  • Completing Maintenance Responsibilities
  • Being a Good Neighbor
  • Knowing Your Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
  • Understanding Fair Housing
